The flow switch is a vital part of your swimming pool system, but people often mistake issues with this switch for issues with the pump itself. A faulty flow switch can cause the salt system to not come on at all or to stay on for too long. Just keep in mind that it is far more likely that your switch is having a problem than your pump.
There are some simple ways to tell which part is the issue. If you have a timer on your pump, start by shutting it of so that the pump just kicks on as needed instead of at a certain time. By doing this you can make sure it is not the timer itself causing problems. The flow switch sends a signal to the salt system to come on. If the flow switch signal continuously displays ‘no flow’, and you are able to tell that there is sufficient water flow, the problem is in the switch.
