A good filter system is essential to maintaining a healthy pool environment. You may have a top-of the-range filter system installed but if your filter cartridges are dirty or need replacing, you won’t be getting the best out of it.
Fortunately cleaning the filter cartridges isn’t too tricky. Once the tank is drained, you can remove each individual Hayward filter cartridge and spray it with water from a hose to rinse it clean.
When should a Hayward filter cartridge be replaced?
Unlike with your salt cell and flow switch, your chlorination system will not indicate when your filter cartridges need replacing. Often they simply need to be cleaned – you will have to make that decision after inspecting them.
The clue that your cartridges need cleaning or replacing is the pressure gauge on the top of your tank. When it rises to 8psi above the normal pressure, it’s time to open it up and have a look.
