All pool owners know the debate about replacement pool filter cartridges. Some people say that you should change them every season while others say you should only have to change them if your pool is no longer clear because of them. Depending on the situation, either option is fine.
For the most part, you can actually clean your cartridge instead of ordering replacement pool filter cartridges, but this is a personal preference. You certainly should buy a new cartridge if yours can no longer be cleaned and therefore has outlived its usefulness. If the end-caps on your cartridges have become cracked, then you will want to replace your cartridges immediately.
If you have a serious algae problem that has had an impact on your filter cartridge, you may want to replace it. Otherwise, you could be putting the algae right back into your pool. Even dead algae can make a pool look unsightly, so sometimes the best choice is to simply replace the filter once the algae has been removed from the pool.
